“Soul of Southeast Asia”
Malaysian Games Industry Leads the Region
The Titan Rises
The video games industry is one of the fastest growing and most profitable in the world, and Southeast Asia is at the heart of it.
Southeast Asia is one of the most valued regions for games with over 1.7 billion USD in profits in 2016. Moreover, Malaysia contributed 19% to that. That certainly leaves no room for doubt on Malaysian passion when it comes to games.
We’ve already seen many success stories from our fellow Malaysians, both in esports and game development. The world watched Team Fnatic clinch 4th place in the 2016 DOTA 2 Internationals. Final Fantasy fans saw the touch of Wan Hazmer in Final Fantasy XV. This is but a glimpse of the potential Malaysia holds for video games.
According to many international reports, Malaysia is the leading country in Southeast Asia’s gaming development scene. This is partly thanks to the cheaper production cost, an easily accessible pool of talents and multiple government initiatives. Gameka is a part of one such initiative, the Level Up Apprentice Program, that aims to guide future Malaysia game makers.
Despite its growth and fame, doubts still remain on the viability of a career in Malaysian games. There are persistent issues, such as lack of a clear career path, volatility of the industry and the general lack of understanding from the older generation. These issues have somewhat slowed the growth of the industry.
However, nothing will really stop the juggernaut that is the Malaysian games industry. Even other countries are recognizing our potential as the gaming hub for the Southeast Asian region. One such example is Japanese giant Bandai Namco, who opened up a studio in Kuala Lumpur with the aid of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
In the middle of this goldmine of games is Gameka. We are one of the fastest growing companies in the app and game development scene. We have award-winning teams of dedicated experts just waiting to turn game ideas into reality.
